Mojo Village, Mt.Kidul, Special Region of Yogyakarta
The raw forms of batu paras mentah in chunks comes from the northern areas of Wonosari in the direction towards Karang Tengah. Batu paras is divided into two types, the soft rocks and the hard rocks. The soft rocks are used for ornaments, which are carved according to the particular pattern. Whilst the hard rocks are used as wall tiles, as they are more resistant towards the weather. After the pattern is drawn, batu paras is carved using a set of metal and wooden carving tools. The carving process may take several days as it requires thoroughness.
